SHAME ON YOU
There is absolutely  NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE
Abandonment of any kind whether it be at a municipal, private,
or a public shelter, as well as neglect, or physical abuse are all
against the law
Green River over flowed its banks a few years ago destroying many homes, leaving them all water
damaged, vacant, and many as piles of rubble. A litter of ten puppies only 4 weeks old were
abandoned in one of the vacant mobile homes around the May 10th of 2007. The woman on the other
end of the line went on to explain she wasn't aware there was a rescue in Wayne County. She had
called the City hall stating she was within city limits as well as the vacant home the puppies were in
and requested they come to get them, but was informed the pound had closed and will not be picking
up any more dogs. They referred her to us.
By  this time these pups were five weeks old  their survival was due to the food provided by a male
dog, steeling from residential garbage cans. The pups had not yet been weaned and being a male he
couldn't provide what these puppies needed most, milk,  so one at a time they died. These three were
covered with flies and newly hatched maggots.  When we went to remove them they squirmed and
whined. They were at deaths door when we rushed them to the vet. Being dehydrated, malnourished
and having severe eye infections we weren't sure at that time that two of the three would even survive
the night but we gave it our best.  All were put on IVs and the furry brindle with  the most spunk was
immediately adopted by one of the vet technicians. The other two made it through the night and by the
following afternoon were standing on their own.  We brought them back to CFPI where they are
thriving. The black and white pup, a male is blind and unknown at this time if he will regain his sight,
the red merle has some visual problems and it is also unknown if this will be permanent. Both puppies
are on antibiotics and are doing remarkably well.
UPDATE: It appears that the bl/white pup has some vision in one eye. They are both doing very well
with the housebreaking. They let you know out loud that it is potty time, let me out!
They will both be up for adoption as special needs so only serious inquiries please.
In the mean time if you would like to help with their medical expenses please click on the convenient

to the account of Cause For Paws. The address is located half way down on our

Passed on July 1, 2004, the new law provides felony level
penalties the first time an act of aggravated cruelty is
committed against a companion animal. Under the old
law, a person had to be charged with a misdemeanor on
the first act of aggravated cruelty, and could only be
charged with a felony on the second act.
We received a call  Saturday March 10, 2007 around midday
an individual abandoned this tiny little 4 1/2 week old pup at
the pound, you know who you are.  Perhaps at the time that
it was done you thought you were doing the puppy a good
deed since it was the city pound.
We got to her on Sunday morning and by that time she was
terrified. We brought her to CPFI making her comfortable
feeding her and treating her for her severe diarrhea. We
wormed her and kept her warm in the house. Our
continuous concern was parvovirus but a puppy that young
can't survive  longer, than 48 to 72 hours after showing the
clinical signs. If you are reading this, you should know that
this puppy cost Cause For Paws over $140.00 in vet bills
.
That's not the worst part. Our hearts were so heavy when 8
days later this puppy died of parvovirus which it got from
the contaminated grounds at the city pound.  Maybe it had
been infected before you abandoned the puppy and thought
it would be better to die there than at your home.
Is it comforting to know that she did not die alone?
Every time an individual dumps a puppy at the city pound  a
death sentence is being signed.
It is only a matter of time before your crime catches up with
you.

Neglect is also abuse

Do you recognize this breed?  This is an
adult Great Pyrenees
This poor angel had to endure the horrible
itching and biting of the sarcoptic mange
mite. This not only could have been
prevented, once detected it was curable.
Instead of treating it, she was abandoned
after hours at  Shelby Humane in Alabama
to let them deal with the illness and to pick
up the tab.
SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!
We get many cases of sarcoptic mange but
this is the most pitiful.
Why let it get this bad?
This GSD was known throughout our community as a
very gentle, sweet and friendly dog, great with kids,
and other dogs alike. He looked a champion of his
breed but soon was over come by the demotectin
mange mite. He bled where ever he was touched.
Demotectin is hereditary but is treatable and can be
controlled while preventing heartworm, controlling
intestinal parasites, ear mites, fleas and ticks all in
one simple monthly dose of Advantage Multi.
Apparently the owner thought it best to shoot it but
didn't succeed in putting it out of its misery, instead it
added to it.
