!!!!Buddy's Cross Country Trip !!!!
8-28-06 Buddy, (formerly known as Boomer ( Boo) came to us 12-21-04 and had been with us for
almost two years during this time no one inquired about him when suddenly the first week of
June, 3families were interested in him. One family decided to back out because of the long
distance between us and she felt his chances would be better if one of the other more local
families would take him. We turned down the 2nd family and didn't hear
back from the remaining family. They never returned the application
though we sent one three different times. We then got a call from the
long distance family asking how Buddy did with his adoption. We
informed them of his status and though they had already adopted
another furkid we asked if they would still consider adopting Buddy.
We encouraged them that we will, one way or another get him there.
The family decided to go ahead with it in spite of the distance.
Buddy's new family did not get him in June nor July and they were
beginning to give up all hopes of getting Buddy. It was a such great
challenge. The adopted family still had not gotten Buddy even within
the first 3 weeks of Aug. Why ? Because Buddy's trip would be to
travel over 2,500 miles from Waynesboro Tenn. to Olympia Wa. The
first plan is how to get him to his new home. With a few options open we decided to go the ground
route. A Doggie Relay so to speak. The 1st week of June we mapped out the route with exchange
stops to be approx every two hrs. The total driving time for Buddy was calculated to approximately
38 hours. We posted and cross-posted our first nationwide plea on the weekend of July 22, asking
for drivers to volunteer taking a leg of one to two hrs. A few more pleas were posted and finally all
legs were filled Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006 only 4 days before the scheduled transport. With everything
ready and all transporters communicating with one another planning and replanning their exact
meeting places, we had Buddy ready to go. He started
his trip Thursday morning Aug 24 at 7:50 am. CTZ
Four weeks after posting 2,500 miles,42 hrs 20
volunteers , 4 days 3 nights later, Buddy was
handed off into the arms of his forever family at
the Lewis and Clark Trail and museum in Wasco
Oregon. This is a memorable ocasion
at a memorable landmark.
There is a great power in numbers and with the
dedication of all the people involved in all phases
of rescue, from the rescue itself, to the posters
and cross-posters, to the coordinaters and the
monitors, and finally to the volunteers who drive
them, we got this furkid to his new furever home
to be with his new furever family and his new
furever adopted brother!!
Thank you all ! Great job!
Some Very Happy Endings
Cause For Paws has rescued a great
number of animals to date, many of which
have been placed with other rescues or
we have adopted them out of state. Koala
Id # 060602-1 was turned in as a puppy
when she was found in high grass
and the resident accidentally mangled
several of her toes with a weed wacker.
Her toes needed to be amputated but she
grew up healthy happy, and was adopted
out three years later to a family through
Dogs Deserve Better in Maine.
HSUS Fact: Did you know that spaying and neutering one pair of dogs prevents the births of 67,000 offspring in a 6 year period?

lf left in tact, this mom could
have produced another litter
fourteen weeks after these 9
puppies were weaned. Each of
these 9 pups would have
produced their first litter at
approx. 8 months if not altered.
Lady 071502-1-2 was a rescue from the
Waynesboro city pound in 2002. She was
1 of 2 labs pulled. The lab she was
kenneled with at the pound unfortunately
suffered from an inoperable brain tumor
and had to be put to sleep
Lady however was vetted spayed and
vaccinated became one of Cause For
Paws long time residents as she was not
adopted until three years later. She was
also adopted to a family in Ma. through
Dogs Deserve Better

These little girls were at the pound so long
they were totally depressed suffered from
mange and wanted nothing more than to be
part of a family. If these faces don't break
your heart than nothing will. There is a good
side to this. They both had a sponsor and
they went to Pa. together where they are
now being fostered until their adoption is

Some vet care, alot of love, and some kind attention, both these girls now have a happy
gleam in their eyes. We want to thank Maria for running all over to get these girls vetted ,
spayed, for fostering and getting them ready for their transport, Jodi for overnighting and
getting them to their transport starting point Sat morning. Thank you Diane and Janel for
sponsoring, these girls, Sandra and Lorene for coordinating this transport, Janel for fostering
both girls upon their arrival and a great many thanks for all the volunteers that got up extra
early and to those that stayed up extra late to drive them 1800 miles to their new life of
happiness. Great job everyone and thank you from the bottom of their little hearts and ours

Big difference from the city pound, that's for sure. The brittany now goes by Nani
(pronounce naynay hawaiian for beautiful and the heeler shepherd mix now goes by Lilly.
Nani will grab every opportunity to steel pillows and blankets to go to sleep on. She is
making up for all the uncomfortable cold hard nights she spent at the pound. Good for both
of you, accept it whenever you can. Believe us we feel all of you furbabies were worth every
minute, every mile, and then some.
We have adopted out pets as far as Olympia Wa. to Massachusetts, to Florida and with the
aide of volunteers across the nation formed a transport relay getting them to their new
furever homes. Only with the help from the community will we be able to continue these
efforts in placing some homeless pets. Millions of companion animals are put to sleep
needlessly each year because there are just not enough homes to go around. Please spay
or neuter. Please donate. Please sponsor a long term companion animal at your local rescue.
Though most of our expenses are out of pocket we cannot do this without help from you.
We will not be able to take in pets without monitory donations.
8 of the 14 adult dogs at the pound and five newborn puppies were placed.
